Sarawak Adventure Dive 2015

The Sarawak Adventure Dive seminar is now running for the third consecutive year since starting in 2013.

This time around, Tourism Malaysia Diving Ambassador Clement Lee was in Miri to share his experiences about diving around Sarawak among other invited guests and speakers.

The Sarawak Adventure Dive is also organised by Tourism Malaysia Sarawak, where the objective is to help Sarawak the next diving haven.

The state-level launching of the “Sarawak Adventure Dive” 2015 was officiated by Tourism Malaysia’s Director of Domestic Promotion Division, Iskandar Mirza Mohd Yusof, at the Imperial Hotel in Miri Sarawak on the 20th August 2015.

At this year's event, a total of 30 divers comprising dive operators, travel agents, hoteliers, and media from all over the country and Miri-based tourism industry players were invited to experience the diving activities in Miri.

Before the seminar, media representatives, dive speakers, invited guests, and Clement Lee had participated in a specially organised diving activity at various dive sites in Miri.

Beginner or Open Water Divers were introduced to the beautiful Siwa Reef and Anemone Garden. At the same time, advanced divers were treated to some spectacular diving at the Santak and Batu Belais dive sites.

Also present in this seminar, Tourism Malaysia Sarawak is PADI Course Director Clement Lee, President Malaysia Scuba Diving Association Amin Mustapha and Sarawak Forestry Corporation Marine Biologist James Bali.

During the opening ceremony of Sarawak Adventure Dive 2015, Iskandar Mirza urged that this program aligns with Tourism Malaysia's goal to increase awareness of niche tourism products, especially diving, which was promoted extensively in the past few years.

The Sarawak Adventure Dive is also in line with the recently launched new domestic travel campaign called ‘Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia Dekat Je’ to encourage more Malaysians to travel nearby places in the country for their weekend getaway, especially with the local public holidays falling on Fridays and Mondays.

The Sarawak Adventure Dive 2014/15 package was first unveiled during the Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia Travel Fair at Mid Valley shopping centre on 8th August 2014.

Tourism Malaysia collaborated with four local tour agencies to produce the dive packages. They consist of the Borneo Exploration Tours & Travel Services and CPH Travel Agencies in Kuching, Minda Nusantara Tour & Travel Agencies and Planet Borneo Tours & Travel Services Miri.

Conclusion

This is the third year that Diving in Miri is being promoted, and many may not know that Miri is one of the new diving destinations here simply due to the untouched beautiful marine and coral life here.

There are wrecks, reefs and beautiful underwater landscapes suitable for open water and advanced divers.

There are over 20 dive sites and two main dive operators here where Coco Dive being the pioneer operator who also participated in the Sarawak Adventure Dive 2015 here in Miri.
