Songkhla Aquarium in Thailand

Hat Yai Aquarium

The Songkhla Aquarium is a must-visit place in Hat Yai. It is about 45 minutes from the city and is surrounded by several other tourist attractions.

When I arrived, I had yet to learn what the aquarium was about, but when I finally made my way in, I was surprised by the outcome. This place is great for those travelling with kids, too.

Firstly, when you enter the place, you will be taken for a video presentation by the local tourism board. An air conditioning mini theatre will present a 10-minute video of the Songkhla Aquarium in Thailand.

Right after the presentation, you are led into the main aquarium area. The beginning showcases several freshwater fish species found around Southeast Asia. The information on each tank is in English, so you will know the fish's names.

As I got in deeper, I noticed the sea fish being displayed. Some unique species on display are seahorses, coralfish, and corals.

From there, you will see the underwater tunnel, which leads to the underwater viewing room where a show is conducted for visitors.

The underwater tunnel is pretty impressive. You will notice several large fish, sharks, and even turtles swimming over you. This is also a great photo spot.

Finally, at the underwater show, there are seats where you can watch a diver inside the main tank feeding the various fishes.

An emcee will entertain you in English and Thai while you notice all sorts of undersea fishes coming for the feed.

If you look at the picture below, you will notice lots of large fish, including a giant grouper. Overall, it is quite an interesting experience and really fun for both kids and adults.

When you exit the aquarium, there is a gift shop where you can buy souvenirs. A drink stall outside the courtyard also sells soft drinks and my favorite—Thai Ice milk tea and coffee!

Among the many things to do in Hat Yai, you can find the Hat Yai Cable Car, Ice Dome, Floating Market in Hat Yai, and Hat Yai Park.

Visitors must travel out of the city area to visit various beautiful Thai temples and other exciting places. However, if you have kids, you should also visit the Songkhla Aquarium.
