As peak season is from November to January every year, there is only one way to go to Koh Lipe: by boat.

How to go to Koh Lipe?

Ferries are the only transport to Lipe, and they can be taken from Langkawi Island or Pak Barra in Thailand. Remember, December and January is the super-peak season on Lipe too. 

There are no flights to Koh Lipe as there is no airport and no roads leading into the island, so getting here can be a challenge for first-timers.

Important Notes

  • Passengers need to check in 2 hours before departure time.
  • Passports are required from Langkawi Island to Koh Lipe.
  • Kuah Jetty is in Kuah Town, about 30 minutes by taxi from Langkawi Airport.
  • Telaga Harbour Jetty is about 10 minutes by taxi from Langkawi Airport. 
  • There are no bus services in Langkawi.

Arriving at Koh Lipe

  • There is no jetty on Koh Lipe.
  • A floating barge/pontoon is the main drop-off point outside Lipe.
  • Small longtail boats come to the pontoon and take you to resorts (THB50 per person).
  • When you reach the island, prepare to get your feet wet as you get off the small boats.

Important Notes

  • Passengers need to check in 2 hours before departure time
  • Buy your tickets online or at the Ferry Counter! Beware of fake tickets from touts
  • Boats from Pak Bara drop you at Mountain Resort and Pattaya Beach 
  • Pak Bara is about 2.5 hours from Hat Yai town
  • Buses to and from cost THB80 one way and operate from 7am to 4pm
  • Mini Vans cost THB150-300 one way per person
  • Taxis cost around THB1850 to THB2000 one way for 4 persons.

Koh Lipe General Information
  1. The immigration office is located on Pattaya Beach (main beach).
  2. There is no public transport on the island.
  3. The Walking Street is the main attraction here. 
  4. There are ATMs located on Ko Lipe Walking Street
  5. There is Halal Food available for Muslims in Koh Lipe.
  6. Various shops, restaurants, bars, pharmacies, internet cafes, and massages are available.
