This is also the first drilled oil well of Miri which was obtained by Shell and had a remarkable record over 62 years. The oil well had operated almost non-stop from that day in December 1910, when she had first brought into production, until she was closed in 1941 due to the second world war.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003EDuring that period, the well had produced 563,484 barrels and was still producing 10 barrels per day. In three and a half years of occupation, Well No.1 wore for only 12 months during which she produced 4,371 barrels. At close, the well still managing to produce 3 barrels of oil a day and when finally stopped, had produced a total of over 650,000 barrels of oil.\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003EFor those interested in the oil history of Miri, there is a museum named the Petroleum Museum situated just next to The Grand Old Lady. The museum is open daily, 9am - 5pm and a small admission fee is required.\u0026nbsp;Just next to the oil museum, there is a Bistro called Hazard, which offers food and beverages overlooking Miri town. It is recommended that you double check before going here. There is a Tourist Visitor Center in town too.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003ETo get here, one has to either take a slow long walk or take a taxi (About RM7-10 one way) as there are no bus services available to reach this destination. And don't forget to ask the taxi to wait for you as if he leaves you, there are no taxi's headed back to the city. Last year showed the fans a fascinating time with a strong line up of musicians from around the world. So this year's line up has to top it and as I prepare to make my way to Miri for the BJF 2014, here is a compilation of what happened at the previous Borneo Jazz Festival 2013.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003EJazz is a genre that is loved by many people, but there is a very low understanding of jazz music in Malaysia, especially with the younger generation. While most people always assume jazz is about Kenny G, Harry Connick Jr or even Kitaro, you should know that jazz goes a long long way. Overlooking the entire Miri city, the hotel offers one of the best views from the Sky Bar here when I visited the hotel for a press conference with the Sarawak Tourism Board during the Borneo Jazz Festival 2013. Overall, Miri was well known as an oil-city but was re-branded as a resort city by the sea recently. Much development has taken place since my last visit here in 2009 too as there are more hotels and shopping malls. \u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003EThere are a number of places where you can get some really great Sarawak sunset photos from here, namely the hotel sky bar, Brighton Beach and the upcoming Miri Esplanade. Scott Martin Latin Soul Band from West-Coast of USA has performed all over the world with many artists but best known for his successful tenure winning a Grammy.
