Who should attend MIDE 2016?

In general, anyone who is a diver or is planning to be a diver should attend the event. You will find all walks of life of all ages coming to the event to learn more about scuba diving, new equipment, new destinations and so on.

Some even take the next step in learning about technical diving or even rebreathers. Overall, you will see the who's who in the scuba diving world here at MIDE.

On the visitors to the event, many local divers would wait for MIDE to buy diving equipment and book dive trips locally and around the world. This trend has also been where most divers would wait for the main event over the years.

Speaking to some dive retailers last year, they expressed a positive and negative reaction to this trend, where the good side is that it helps the event economy to flourish.

But on the not-so-good side, retailers have lost a slice of the cake as most divers have now resorted to the dive expo offering special prices and packages.

Dato Nazri
Tourism Minister Dato Nazri officially launches MIDE 2015.

The Tourism Minister with MIDE sponsors.

Last year's Malaysia International Dive Expo 2015 saw increase scuba divers and the general public attending the diving trade and consumer show in Kuala Lumpur.

This year saw the event being officiated by Malaysia's Tourism Minister, Dato Nazri, along with the Director-General of Tourism Malaysia, Dato Mirza.

During a press conference after the launch, the minister mentioned that diving is one of the growing sports and hobbies that will attract tourists to the many locations around Malaysia.

For now, the diving industry players need to focus on quality service and maintain a professional level of service to all customers, local or international.

As a diver myself, I have been diving at several locations around Malaysia and, lately, spending more time diving in Miri, Sarawak, as Miri is one of the upcoming locations for leisure diving due to the place needing to be commercialised.

Among the many Miri dive sites, most are rich with coral life and fish and are easily accessed from the mainland by boat, which is only 20-30 minutes out. There are, in fact, many other Sarawak dive sites to explore, and they can be easily done with licensed dive operators here.

Conclusion

For anyone who wants to know more, this is the best place to understand more about diving. A majority of the top players in the industry will be here; the diving agencies will also be here, while the retailers, re-sellers, dive operators and so on will be at MIDE 2016. See you there!
