Thailand Happiness Street Festival

Street Festival Bangkok

The Thailand Happiness Street Festival was a special campaign organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and held from the 25-26 July 2014 in Bangkok.

The main venue was right in front of the Central World Square at Ratchaprasong Road here in Bangkok where the road was closed for this massive event.

The tagline of Thailand Happiness 2014 was 'Colour Your Life with Happiness' where TAT invited all foreigners and local Thai people for a massive street festival in capital city of Bangkok.

Before the main festival, a launch event took place at the Grand Centara Convention Center next to Central World here.

Invited guests and media were treated to a fascinating array of local Thai food and also drinks which included the famous Mekhong Whisky which was done in a special cocktail.

Colourful Thai finger food and also Thai dishes were placed around the main convention hall where guests, media and locals mingled before the official launching.

The Thailand Happiness 2014 Festival was officially launched by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik and Admiral Narong Pipattanasai, Deputy Head of National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) here at the Grand Centara Convention Hall on the 25th July evening.

Witnessing the Thailand Happiness 2014 Launch were also 900 specially invited media, celebrities and travel agents from 47 countries around the world which packed up the convention hall.

In the opening speech, Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik said, “We were very happy to see such a large turnout for what turned out to be a very unique event.

Along with our project partners, Thai Airways International and Ratchaprasong Square Trade Association, we believe we succeeded in making this the biggest and best back-to-normal party Thailand has ever seen.

Given the short time frame we had to get this organised, we believe everything went really well.”

A surprise performance of a 'Flash Mob' from the crowd saw a number of people standing up randomly and singing a theme song for this event where eventually all of them made it to the main stage for a full dance and performance in multi language.

The event was then continued at the main street where the carnival and parade took place in front of thousands of people waiting in a sea of colourful balloons.

As for me, it was a honour to be invited to this auspicious event and even better was meeting up with old friend Khun Wiboon, who was the former director of Tourism Authority of Thailand Malaysia.

Khun Wiboon was pleasantly surprised to see the Malaysian entourage which totalled up to about 48 people who were issued specially designed checked shirts for this event.

Conclusion

The Thailand Happiness launching was a success with an amazing turnout for the street festival that took place over two days here in Bangkok.

This was also part of the efforts to regain confidence to tourist and travelers in visiting Thailand as in the past, there has been much negative media spread around the world.

A big thumbs up to TAT together with the support of the NCPO for organizing the Thailand Happiness Street Festival campaign.
