Thailand Dive Expo 2014

Thailand Dive Expo 2014 is going on from the 15th till 18th May at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok and it is well known that in the past years, the scuba diving industry in Thailand had grown significantly, which can be measured by the growing numbers of scuba divers and various diving businesses. Part of it is the country’s existing natural environment, specifically the beautiful seas, with its rich natural resources either at the Andaman Sea or the Gulf of Thailand, all of which reflect beautiful underwater scenery that attract thousands of tourists who are scuba diving lovers to continuously travel to Thailand. The other reason is that the widespread popularity of scuba diving activities among the local Thai people.

While the scuba diving industry is growing steadily, and although the number of divers both Thai and foreigners increased, the political turmoil in the country and a severe downturn of the global economic conditions during the past few years, has negatively affected such growth. Businessmen and tourists have slowed down their diving trips to Thailand and instead relocate their itineraries to other destinations in Asia and Europe. Particularly in 2010 when the riots occurred in Thailand which caused the delay of Thailand Dive Expo 2010 (TDEX), the event that was held continuously for a period of 6 years since 2004. The exhibition needs to be postponed until the situation is more stable. Many operators and foreign divers are lack of confidence to visit Thailand either as a tourist or doing business, because they are aware of both their security and Thailand economic insecurity.
