Book on Rainforest World Music Festival

The rich statistical findings of the survey conducted at last year’s Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) have been compiled as a book.

Entitled “Rainforest World Music Festival: The Sarawak Success Story”, the book is published by UCSI Communications Sdn Bhd and authored by Gracie Geikie, Lah Wan Yee and Soo Aie Lee.

Gracie Geikie is the Managing Director of UCSI Communications and Deputy Dean of UCSI University, Sarawak Campus, while both Lah and Soo are lecturers at the university.

The survey was conducted at last year’s RWMF by 22 enumerators and three supervisors. More than 1,200 festival-goers responded to the survey over the three days at the event.

The survey was endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism and the Sarawak Tourism Board.

The authors took several months to compile, process and analyses the data collected before writing their findings. “The book captures views and memories of the festival-goers, business vendors, local musicians, hospitality and tourism operators and stakeholders,” Gracie disclosed.

While it is based on survey findings, the 110-page book was not written academically but more for leisure reading with plenty of photographs.

“With those rich statistical findings, it was decided that, with so much information on the event, it would be ideal for weaving them into a story type book while capturing the essence of the RWMF’s 15-year journey,” said Gracie.

The book could also be used as a resource material, especially for Event Management students. A total of 500 books will be distributed to universities worldwide.

The books can be purchased at the music festival, held at the Sarawak Cultural Village, from June 28 to 30.
