Sabah Sunset at Mantanani Island

Mantanani Island Sunset

This beautiful Sabah sunset at Mantanani Island is my picture for the week. I took this picture from the Bembaran Resort jetty at Mantanani Besar Island during one of my dive trips here.

Known for the amazing diving and spectacular sunsets, Mantanani island can be reached in under three hours from Kota Kinabalu city.

Mantanani Island also offers day trips for snorkeling, and also overnight trips for scuba divers. All of these trips can easily be booked by the various travel agents found around Kota Kinabalu.

There are only three resorts on the island and one of the mains ones here is called Bembaran Beach Resort located on the main island among the two islands here.

Note that scuba diving at Mantanani Island is the primary reason for those visiting here, and as mentioned earlier in this article, my objective was to experience diving here as I have heard much about this place.

For photographers, it depends on what you want to achieve when you visit this island, and if you are a landscape photographer, I would recommend you stay here for at least two to three days.

You need to experience the sunrise and sunsets and also trek around the island, plus you may even need to rent a boat to visit Mantanani Kecil island for more photography.

For bird photographers, Mantanani Island is well known for some rare species of birds like the Mantanani Scops Owl, which is endemic here.

During my scuba diving trip here, I somehow manage to find some time to do some bird watching on the island too. Well, for a short experience, I did manage to spot quite a number of birds on Mantanani.

Conclusion

And finally, for those coming here as a getaway from the city, or simply for a quick island vacation, you can easily entertain yourself as the island is really small.

One of the best things to do just before dinner is to head to the beachside and catch a beautiful Sabah sunset at Mantanani Island.
