Photo of Halong Bay

This photo of Halong Bay in Vietnam is my picture of the week as this is one of the must-visit places on earth where most world travellers would stop. The most prominent thing here at Ha Long Bay is taking the overnight junk boat cruise.

Anyone visiting Vietnam and Hanoi should not pass on this opportunity, or you will shoot yourself in the foot if you go back and your friends find out you missed out on experiencing Halong Bay.

I was fortunate enough to try both during my visit here in 2010. I experienced both the day cruise and the overnight cruise at Halong Bay. Each of them provides different kinds of experience and is worth trying.

While there are many types of Halong Bay Cruise to choose from, you can get the budget cruise (US$40) right up to luxury cruises (US$200+) fit for a king. Again, it all depends on your wallet or purse. I would recommend the medium-range tours.

Apart from the overnight cruise here, you will also have the opportunity to explore some fantastic places, like the Thien Cung Cave or the many fish farms around this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You should also be prepared to bring some food and drinks while you go on this trip as prices on board the junk are pretty high. For first-timers, please take note of the main cruise jetty, which is the Bai Chay Wharf in Halong Bay,

Conclusion

Vietnam is quite diverse; therefore, visiting Hanoi and Halong Bay differs from other parts of Vietnam and is truly an Ecotourism destination.

In my opinion, I feel like Hanoi is a more natural place to visit compared to HCMC. Da Nang is more of a resort city, and Halong Bay is more of an epic adventure than other places.
