Castaway Resort in Koh Lipe Review

Koh Lipe Castaway Resort

The Castaway Resort at Koh Lipe Thailand has to be one of the most excellent and unique natural chalets I have seen in a very long time.

The practical concept of double-storey wooden chalets made an impression when I walked along the well-known Sunrise Beach.

My first encounter with this divers resort was in early 2010 on my first visit to Koh Lipe Island. On my second visit in mid-2010, I made a proper visit to Castaway to learn more about them.

Castaway Resort in Koh Lipe Review

Koh Lipe is an island paradise in Southern Thailand and attracts sun-seekers from all over the world. With pure white sand beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters and stunning blue skies, it would be wrong not to have a beautiful resort complementing this natural paradise.

As they have a full-fledged diving centre and resort, you can assure that you will be well-taken care of during your stay here. The overall Thai wooden architecture of the place gives you a welcoming feeling.

You do not have to be a diver to stay here, as I noticed that even families took advantage of this remarkable place.

Complete with a bar, restaurant and spa, the owners have spent a reasonable amount of time and money making the Castaway Dive Center one of the famous places in Ko Lipe.

What I like most about Castaway is that some of the chalets have a full sea-facing uninterrupted view. The layout is carefully planned, as this unit will only allow the view for those behind the main chalets.

And, of course, the price will be a little more for the front units. Complete with a hammock on the porch, these units have the bathrooms on the lower level, while the bedroom occupies the entire top team with stunning views from the balcony.

Apart from these units, single bungalow units are located further in for bigger groups. These spacious units are perfect for those with children too.

The chill-out deck is an elevated wooden platform giving you perfect views of the Andaman Sea. Low Thai-styled tables and wooden benches make this place one of the main areas to hang out, have a cocktail or beer and even have food.

Hammocks are strung from beam to beam while a walkway connects this place to the main bar and dive centre.

The spa is located at one end in a stand-alone unit on the beach so getting an authentic Thai massage on the beach is surreal here.

Queen-size double beds with mosquito nets are on all double-storey Sea Breezy and Beach Breezy Bungalows.

There are no TVs or modern gadgets here apart from a ceiling fan and storage chest with a lock. A wooden staircase without a handrail from the lower floor is the primary access which may not be suitable for children.

The storage and western-style bathroom are downstairs, with no air-conditioning apart from the natural sea breeze that blows in.

The fantastic Koh Lipe Sunrise is one of the best views here. The resort is also located along the island's east side, hence getting the name Sunrise Beach.

Access to the main Ko Lipe Walking Street or Pattaya Beach is just an easy 10-minute walk through the village.

A beautiful long stretch on the main beach in front of the resort is perfect for those seeking privacy compared to the other main beaches.

Local Chow Ley fishermen park their boats around the area and leave early dusk for the day fishing on this main beach.

Conclusion

Koh Lipe is a fantastic place for beach and island lovers, scuba divers or just plain explorers. Note that this is a seasonal island with peak and off-peak timings.

Getting here is only via fast boat from Langkawi or Pak Barra in Southern Thailand, as there is no airport or roads on the island.

If you want to know more about how to reach this beautiful island, you can read my article about how to go to Koh Lipe, Thailand.

Finally, for those who want something different from the normal, I recommend checking out Castaway Resort in Ko Lipe, Thailand, as this is truly one of the best natural places here.
