Castaway Resort in Koh Lipe Review

Koh Lipe Castaway Resort

The Castaway Resort at Koh Lipe Thailand has to be one of the nicest and unique natural chalets I have seen in a very long time.

The practical concept of double-storey wooden chalets definitely made an impression when I was walking along the well known Sunrise Beach here.

My first encounter with this divers resort was back in early 2010 on my first visit to Koh Lipe Island. It was on my second visit in mid-2010 that I actually made a proper visit to Castaway to find out a little more about them.

Castaway Resort in Koh Lipe Review

Koh Lipe is known as an island paradise in Southern Thailand and attracts sun-seekers from all over the world.

With pure white sand beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters and stunning blue skies, it would be wrong not to have a beautiful resort to complement this natural paradise.

As they have a full-fledged diving centre and resort, you can assure that you will be well-taken care during your stay here. The overall Thai wooden architecture of the place gives you a very warm and welcoming feeling.

You do not have to be a diver to stay here as I noticed there were even families who took advantage of this special place.

Complete with a bar, restaurant and a spa, the owners have spent a good amount of time and money making the Castaway Dive Center one of the popular places in Ko Lipe.

What I like most about Castaway is that some of the chalets have a full sea-facing uninterrupted view. The layout is carefully planned as no other unit will block the view for those behind the main chalets.

And of course, the price will be a little more for the front units. Complete with a hammock on the porch, these units have the bathrooms on the lower level while the bedroom occupies the entire top unit with stunning views from the balcony.

Apart from these units, there are single bungalow units located further in for bigger groups. These spacious units are perfect for those with children too.

The chill-out deck is an elevated wooden platform giving you perfect views of the Andaman Sea. Low Thai-styled tables and wooden benches make this place one of the main areas to hang out, have a cocktail or beer and even to have your food.

Hammocks are strung from beam to beam while a walkway connects this place to the main bar and dive centre.

The spa is located at one end in a stand-alone unit on the beach so getting an authentic Thai massage on the beach is something surreal here.

Queen size double beds complete with mosquito nets are on all double-storey Sea Breezy and Beach Breezy Bungalows.

There are no TVs or modern gadgets here apart from a ceiling fan and storage chest with lock. A wooden staircase without handrail from the lower floor is the main access which may not be suitable for children.

The storage and western style bathroom is located downstairs while there is no air-conditioning apart from the natural sea breeze that blows in.

One of the best views found here would be the amazing Koh Lipe Sunrise. The resort is also located along the east side of the island hence getting the name Sunrise Beach.

Access to the main Ko Lipe Walking Street or Pattaya Beach is just an easy 10-minute walk through the village.

A beautiful long stretch on the main beach in front of the resort is perfect for those seeking privacy compared to the other main beaches.

Local Chow Ley fishermen park their boats around the area and leave early dusk for the days fishing on this main beach.

Koh Lipe is truly an amazing place to visit for the beach and island lover, scuba diver or just plain explorer. Note that this is a seasonal island with peak and off-peak timings.

Getting here is only via fast boat from either Langkawi or Pak Barra in Southern Thailand as there is no airport or roads available on the island.

If you want to know more about how to reach this beautiful island, you can read my article about how to go to Koh Lipe, Thailand.

Finally, for those who want to seek something different from the normal, I would sincerely recommend checking out Castaway Resort in Ko Lipe, Thailand, as this is truly one of the best natural places here.

Mark, it's one of the places I would stay at if I re-visit Koh Lipe again. The inside is so cool while the surroundings are amazing.

Do you know what the rate is in US dollars? These look wonderful - very relaxing and peaceful. :)

Malaysia Asia said...

Christy, it's about USD$50 to $1000 depending on the season. But the sea-view chalets will cost about $60-100 easily.

Castaway has add some new bungalows this year, a little large with all glassed fronts for even better views.

Nice! It's great to learn about islands other than the usual famous ones like koh samui and krabi. Thanks for sharing!

do you have air conditioner room?

Malaysia Asia said...

Idelish - Yes, there are many other islands around which attract the 'real' island goers apart from the commercialized islands around Thailand.
