Sepilok Nature Resort Review

Sabah Sepilok Nature Resort

The Sepilok Nature Resort is one of the premium lodges to stay when visiting this part of the Sepilok-Kabali Forest Reserve.

The resort is near the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center and doubles as an orchid or nature lovers' paradise.

This is my review of the Sepilok Nature Resort, which is done for anyone who plans to come here and stay for their nature or birdwatching adventure.

Sepilok Nature Resort Review

On my arrival at the resort, I was thrilled to find a unique collection of rare Borneo Orchids growing throughout the resort. And this is a bonus for anyone who loves flowers or flora.

The rooms are well spread throughout the resort grounds, while a portion of the resort sits over a pond.

Along the walkways to the chalets, there were many species I had not seen before, so it was an excellent stay for me.

I would also like to add that this was one of my first few birdwatching trips to Sabah and Sepilok was one of the first few places I did birding.

As the resort is a quick drive to the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, my guide picked me up in the morning, and I recall it being only a five-minute drive there.

So if you are seeking somewhere central to be based while exploring the many nature places around Sandakan, this would be a good recommendation.

The picture above shows the main building of the Sepilok Nature Resort. Excellent use of natural resources to build the structure was one of the things that impressed me on my visit here.

The entire resort used natural wood, and all the chalets units were 85% built from wood to provide guests with a rustic ambience.

Overall, I would highly recommend staying here as the service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the resort was perfect for all kinds of travellers.

I would also like to thank the Sabah Tourism Board for organizing this trip and one of the most senior and experienced nature guides - Old Man Ben. His vast knowledge about Sepilok and its surroundings was awe-inspiring throughout my journey here.

For more information about the resort, you can visit the official site, which caters to a one-stop package for scuba diving at Lankayan Island, Eco-Tourism in Sandakan, and Kinabatangan Packages, and anything nature-related.

Sabah SNR
Sepilok Nature Resort is also known as SNR.

For those who appreciate some natural Bornean rainforest adventures, you can also read my article on why Sandakan is the best wildlife destination in Malaysia.

Sandakan is also a laid-back town, so do not expect modern shopping malls or what you usually see in the big cities. It's also known as Little Hong Kong.

During my two days of stay here, I also found the time and visit the Rainforest Discovery Center (RDC), a beautiful place for nature lovers. The best time to visit this place is either in the early mornings or late evenings.

And a must not miss place is the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, which is a stone's throw from the RDC. Both of these places are rated as must-visit spots in Sandakan.

Some beautiful orchids are found around the resort.

Conclusion

For anyone looking for more activities to do around this part of Sabah, here is a list of 10 things to do in Sandakan compiled by me during my many trips here.

Overall, this city will suit any nature lover who wants to explore this part of Borneo, a total change from Kota Kinabalu on the west coast. This is a perfect nature-loving place that also practices responsible tourism.

The resort is not budget styled and is the best in its class here, so I hope you enjoyed reading my  Sepilok Nature Resort review and that you will one day plan a stay here.
