MATTA FAIR Penang
The Penang MATTA Fair 2010 is held from the 2nd July till 4th July at PISA (Penang International Sports Arena) from 10.00 am till 9.00 pm over the first weekend of July.

This is the yearly chance for people in the Northern region of Malaysia to take advantage of this amazing travel fair where prices of travel packages are on sale.

Penang MATTA FAIR

One thing about Malaysians is that when it comes to Travel Fairs, most would gladly spend for leisure and the Matta Fair is one of the biggest crowd pullers so prepare for that much awaited holiday you have been saving for.

The travel fair will be having a total of 297 booths related to all things travel at PISA and a number of international tourism bodies like;

  • Tourism Authority of Thailand
  • Macau Government Tourist Office
  • Taiwan Visitors Association Kuala Lumpur
  • Korea Tourism Organization
  • Hong Kong Tourism Board
  • Yogyakarta Tourism & Promotion Board

Most of the tourism boards will be featuring their countries unique places of interest. Local tourism bodies from Malaysia will also be attending to display some of the beautiful places in malaysia.

A total of 30 travel agents will be participating here showcasing some of their signature tour packages so keep an eye out for those travel deals at the fair.

If you are a bargain hunter for travel packages, you should not miss the fair as the best travel deals are found at Malaysia's biggest travel fair.

Sometimes, cheap air tickets are found here, so double check your destination before you go to the fair to compare prices.

Types of Packages at Penang Matta Fair

Muslim Travel Packages will also be available at some of the travel agents booths,  so do check with them about this.

Currently, there is a trend for Halal Tours or Muslim Packages to Korea, China, Indonesia, Egypt and a few other countries. These packages include meals that are halal and hotels that are prepped for the Muslim travelers.

Matta Fair promotions to Taiwan, Korea, Japan and China have always been the popular packages at all of the Matta Fairs in Malaysia.

People from all ages would go for these packages especially with their family by booking Family Packages via some of the popular travel agents here.

Island Packages at Matta are also a big hit with the younger travelers. Places like Bali, Phuket, Samui, Krabi and even the local Malaysian Island Packages are a real good deal to look out for.

Maldives Honeymoon Packages are honeymooners first choice and are also popular among the newly weds. There are also various other destinations for honeymoon packages.

Cruise Packages are also rising and in demand, due to the many cruise companies that operate in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

Tips for Penang Matta Fair:
  • Usually on the last day, most travel agents or companies would have special offers on travel packages or slash prices on tour deals. This has been seen and done at the main Matta Fair in Kuala Lumpur. Unless you have the time to visit the fair for three days, save your travel bookings for the last day after you ave checked out everything.

  • When you look at travel packages at the Matta Fair, always check to see if flight tickets are included. Some packages sound too good to be true and they do not include flight tickets. The term Ground Only Packages means there is no transport included. Works great if you love buying your tickets via AirAsia, Firefly, MASWings or Malaysia Airlines.

  • Some very cheap travel deals may only be valid during 'Off Peak Season', so do check when you are purchasing travel packages. The worst is after buying a family travel package, you find out that you cannot go during the school holidays.

  • Ask for any hidden costs when buying packages. I have heard of cases where after paying for the cheap travel package, the consumer needs to pay additional hidden costs just before the holiday or on arrival at the destination. Famous tricks are Tour Guide Fees, Taxi or Van Charges and so on.

If you encounter any problems with any tour companies or travel agents, you are advised to call the Matta hotline at 03-9287 6881, or lodge a complaint online at the official MATTA Website.

There have been small cases where consumers have been duped, but those are isolated cases and does not happen much. But the above is put here as just a precaution.
