The Datai Langkawi Review

Review of The Datai Langkawi
The Datai Langkawi review highlights one of the most prestigious luxury resorts in Malaysia that is located on the north-western tip of the island.

Surrounded by one of the world's oldest rainforests and having a private beach of its own that faces the Andaman Sea, The Datai resort is one of the few resorts with top-class facilities with impeccable guest service fit for a king or queen.

Getting to The Datai, you are either picked up from the Langkawi International Airport with the Datai's chauffeur service as pre-arrangements can be made when booking for your stay here.

Otherwise, you will take a 30-minute journey via taxi to the resort, passing some beautiful Langkawi scenery.

You will be greeted by name from the friendly resort staff on arrival even before you introduce yourself.

A lovely welcome drink and cold towel are served while you are ushered to the sofa area, where you see the famous lobby with the lotus filled pond and postcard-perfect views of the rainforest and its surroundings.

The Datai boasts of 54 deluxe rooms, 40 villas and 16 suites located around the serene Langkawi rainforest.

Apart from these luxury rooms, there is a world-class spa and an 18-hole championship golf course by the sea.

From a travellers point of view, the Datai is one of the well-known hotels rich in flora and fauna from the tropical rainforest.

Part of the Datai experience is to engage one of their certified naturalists for day or evening nature walks around the Datai rainforest.

Travellers with toddlers would be pleased to know that The Datai also provides babysitting services and an interesting kids menu.

As there are two swimming pools here, the adult pool is only reserved for 16 years and above.

This way, everybody wins where the single traveller can just laze by the adult pool while the families can have fun at the other pool. Both pools are located far apart to ensure privacy.

The Spa at The Datai

The Spa at the Datai is also very unique as it is integrated with the natural rainforest surroundings of the resort.

Some known treatments here include the Datai Massage, Warm Stone Massage and Rainforest Harmony Treatment held in four open-air spa pavilions. Individual and couple treatments are available at The Spa.

A comfortable day bed sits by the villa window, giving you a beautiful view of the lush rainforest. On a rainy day, you have the choice of going to the DVD Library to get a movie of your choice and just spend the day watching movies.

Sitting on the villa balcony, one can just absorb the smell and sounds of the tropical rainforest while enjoying a good book or just simply relaxing.

If you want to move around the resort, they have a buggy service that picks you up. But most of the guests prefer to walk to the various places around the resort.

Restaurants at The Datai

The Datai also has five restaurants located around the resort, where the award-winning Gulai House is the most popular here.

The Gulai House restaurant is also located away from the resorts main building and situated in the middle of a rainforest.

This Malay Kampung style open-air restaurant serves out authentic Malay and Indian styled cuisine in generous portions.

One of the waiting areas

Most packages here do not include breakfast, so do inquire about the Breakfast Inclusive Packages when you book.

Besides this, there are several other packages available which include;

  • Wedding and Honeymoon Packages
  • Long Stay Packages
  • Back To Nature Packages

If you want a honeymoon or anniversary to remember, surprise your loved one by booking a week-long stay here.

Also, if you are looking for a luxurious, exclusive, but relaxed, romantic getaway in a Malaysian rainforest, this is definitely the right place.

Note: The Datai is isolated from everything, so if you want to walk about or visit Kuah Town, they can arrange for this using a taxi or private car service.

Also, watch out for the monkeys while you stay there. They are known to explore guests rooms, so keep those windows locked when you are out, or you may find some items missing when you get back.

Conclusion

This review of The Datai Langkawi was done in 2009, and much of the place has been renovated or upgraded since then. Prices have also increased in the last 10 years too.

For those interested to stay at this luxurious place, the room rates are by season, and they can be sold out for the peak seasons, namely during the year-end.

It is best to book ahead if you want to secure a room or villa in this beautiful resort on Langkawi Island. You can also see some of The Datai videos which I took back then.
